A general view of Childs hill allotments with one of Barnet's tower blocks looking down on our green haven. This is for Joan who liked the picture.
Many people love gardening we have a mix of people from many ethnic background on our site and it adds to the quality of our community. We expect every holder to keep their plot cultivated, but there is room for many styles of gardening. Some with immaculate neat rows some with developed areas that support wild life.
This is Harry he grows some really exotic vegetables, such as calaloo, not one but several types. As you can see Harry is mister neat and tidy his plants dare not get out of line and to Harry a single weed is an insult.
Meet Joe! What a totally different style of gardening, Joe is into conservation, wild life and organic gardening, we are linked to conservation organisations like froglife [yes its a link to the frog life site] every time they visit us they tell us Joe's plot is an absolute haven for wild life, with frogs toads and sloworms evidently thriving.
Now Joe has always wanted to keep honey bees, so I just had to add this picture of Joe when his dream finally came true, his face says it all. Once we have more space maybe we can get Joe to tell his story about taking up beekeeping.
