'Rubbish or debris is perfect'

The Childs Hill Allotment Society recently received a visit from pond doctor Nicholas Meade who is investigating the wildlife to be found on London’s 700 allotment sites. His verdict was favourable. We found lots of pieces of carpet and plastic lying around, which slow worms love to crawl beneath. The right kind of rubbish or debris is perfect for amphibians, because it's nice and warm.ä Frogs, snakes and slow worms are just some of the wildlife that Nicholas Meade’s organisation Froglife wants allotment sites to foster. He is offering a free one-to-one consultation lasting one hour to anyone interested in creating or improving a pond.
